Regulatory Alert: FAA Releases $107 Million in FY26 AIP Grants for Projects at 89 Airports
April 7, 2026
Today, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released a list of over $107 million in infrastructure grant awards as part of the fiscal year 2026 (FY26) Airport Improvement Program (AIP), including $92.6 million in entitlement grants and $15.0 million in discretionary grants. The grants awarded today will fund a variety of projects at 89 airports, including construction and improvement of airport facilities, repairs to runways, taxiways, and aprons, and purchasing equipment needed to operate and maintain airports.
The AIP grants released today were made available by the $4.0 billion in “regular” AIP funding that Congress provided in February as part of the FY26 DOT/FAA spending bill. Today’s announcement is the second major release for the FY26 AIP cycle and brings the total amount of FY26 AIP grants awarded to about $307.4 million. FAA will need to announce another approximately $3.5 billion over the next five months.

Upcoming Deadline Reminder: Airport sponsors have until Friday, May 1 to (a) submit applications to FAA to use their FY26 AIP entitlement funds and (b) notify FAA of their intent to use any FY23 Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) Program allocations that have not been obligated for a specific project. As a reminder, FY23 AIG allocations expire this fiscal year on September 30, 2026; up to $100 million of any allocations available after that date will be repurposed for and awarded under the FY27 FAA Contract Tower Competitive Grant Program.
AAAE has developed a one-page overview of the various grant programs and funds being administered by FAA, including relevant timelines, to help airports understand the status of programs and navigate the opportunities available for infrastructure funding. You can access the latest version here.
