Airport Alert: Senate Confirmed David Cummins to be TSA Administrator

This afternoon, the Senate confirmed David Cummins on a vote of 51-47 to be the eighth Administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Cummins was included in a package of 74 nominees that the full Senate considered en bloc.

Since mid-June, Cummins has been serving in an advisory capacity at TSA. Previously, he was an executive at Serco, a multinational government services contractor.

As we have reported previously, Cummins’ priorities include improving TSA employee morale following the devastating impacts of multiple government shutdowns earlier this fiscal year; aggressively pursuing proposals to privatize airport screeners; and modernizing aviation security through faster deployments of technologies to stay ahead of emerging threats.

AAAE looks forward to working closely with TSA Administrator Cummins to advance our shared imperative to further enhance airport and aviation security. We are also eager to work with him and his team to ensure that agency initiatives, including privatization, are undertaken cooperatively to enhance security, increase efficiency, and avoid shifting costs and responsibilities to airports.
