Airport Alert: President to Nominate David Cummins as TSA Administrator
April 23, 2026
Media is reporting that President Trump intends to nominate David Cummins to be the next Administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
David Cummins was a Senior Vice President of Citizen Services at Serco from December 2016 until April 2026. Serco is a British multinational government services contractor that works in the justice, migration, defense, space, web services, health and transport spaces, according to their website. Cummins previously served as a Senior Vice President for Global Mobility Solutions at Xerox and was the Director of Operations for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.
The last Senate confirmed TSA Administrator was David Pekoske, who left that role in January 2025. Following his departure, Ha Nguyen McNeill has been serving as the Senior Official Performing the Duties of the TSA Administrator since April 2025. Media reports that McNeill will assist with the leadership transition.
No official nomination paperwork for Cummins has been submitted yet. Once submitted, the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee will review and hold a confirmation hearing. If the Committee favorably advances his nomination, Cummins will then need to be approved by the full Senate before he can begin serving as the eighth TSA-confirmed Administrator.
Cummins nomination comes at a challenging time for the agency as the prolonged DHS shutdown has severely impacted screener availability and attrition, causing increased wait times in advance of major events this summer such as the FIFA World Cup and America’s 250th celebration.
We will keep you up-to-date as this nomination progresses.
