Airport Alert: Mullin Confirmed as Next DHS Secretary
March 24, 2026
Last evening, the Senate confirmed Markwayne Mullin (55-45) to be the ninth Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). He is expected to be sworn in before the end of the month, after Secretary Kristi Noem departs.
Mullin, a Republican from Oklahoma, was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2022, and last night had the opportunity to vote for himself to become the next DHS Secretary. Prior to that, he served ten years in the House of Representatives.
Mullin is a close ally of President Trump and is known for his work to reach across the political aisle to reach consensus on controversial issues. Some hope his confirmation will help end the over five week funding impasse for DHS. Press are reporting on an outline to a possible deal following a meeting with the White House yesterday.
