Airport Alert: TSA Administrator Pekoske Ousted
TSA Administrator Pekoske Ousted
January 20, 2025
According to several press reports, President Trump asked TSA Administrator David Pekoske to leave his position as of noon today. Pekoske had a five-year term that would not have expired until September 2027, but he serves at the president's behest.
Pekoske’ s ouster was unexpected, with many in the Department of Homeland Security expecting Pekoske to serve as the Acting DHS Secretary until South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is confirmed as Secretary. The Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee is expected to vote on Noem’s confirmation later today. If favorably approved, the full Senate could vote on her confirmation later this week.
AAAE anticipates Melanie Harvey, the Executive Assistant Administrator for Security Operations, will serve as the Acting TSA Administrator until a new Administrator is confirmed.
